Kidepo Valley National Park
Among the top ten listed Uganda’s National Parks to go for Safaris, Kidepo Valley National Park is ranked to be the most isolated Park located at far distances from Uganda’s capital city “Kampala” or Entebbe where the international airport is located.
Comparing the top ten Uganda’s National Park, if Kidepo Valley National Park is not in the first position of hosting huge numbers of different Wildlife species then it’s ranked second, this Park is popularly known for its great Wildlife offered plus different views of landscapes, valleys and more.
Kidepo Valley National Park is the only National Park in Uganda known for habiting unique species which are not found in any other place of interest, these unique species include ostrich, cheetah, and more.
K.V.N.P is geographically in the North-Eastern part of Uganda along Uganda’s border with Kenya, most of the Park’s areas are covered by Savannah grasslands and woodlands although even tropical rain forested areas appear but not on a wide range.
Other ecosystems within the Park include shrubs, hilly areas, and Swampy related areas that provide habitat to different Wildlife Species including Wild animals, Primates, Reptiles, insect species, and different bird species including endemic and non-endemic species.
How to get there?
K. V. N. P in the North Eastern part of Uganda is usually accessed by two means of transport including road transport which is mostly used and air transport.
Travelling from Kampala by road, there are two route options of reaching this Park including route one which starts from Kampala and drive via Kampala- Masindi- Gulu highway then up to Kitgum and from Kitgum you continue with the journey up to the Park.
Route two starts from Kampala and drive via Kampala- Jinja- Mbale highway including en route stopover in Jinja town for some simple activities like boat cruise and after continue with the Journey up to the Park.
When you compare the two routes, route one is considered to be shorter than route two, this journey to Kidepo Valley National Park is usually done in two days whereby on day one you will stop on the way for resting, relaxation, and overnight stay at the lodge after long-distance drives
Then on day two early in the morning, you will have breakfast and check out for the continuation of your journey up to the Park. It’s advised that when heading to Kidepo by road, its better you stock some fuel in Jerry can such that you can use it in case of scarcity while in the field
If not road transport, you can go by air and always private charters are arranged from kajjansi airstrip or Entebbe airport up to Apoka airstrip in Kidepo valley National Park
What to see in Kidepo.
Wide range of different Wildlife species is offered in this Park including Wild animals like Elephants, Buffaloes, Lions, Leopards, and spotted hyenas, Kobs, Forest hogs, Warthogs, bush pigs, reedbucks, Giraffes, Cheetah, Zebras, reedbucks, and more.
Primates include Wild Chimpanzees, Red-tailed monkeys, Red Colobus monkeys, Black and White Colobus monkeys, Vervet, Patas monkeys, Mangabey, Baboons, and more, and Reptiles include snakes, crocodiles, geckos, chameleon, and more.
K.V.N.P is referred to as a birders’ haven for bird watching, recorded with different bird species including Endemic and non-endemic bird species
Activities are done in Kidepo.
The main activity is done while in Kidepo valley National Park is game driving around the Park with the interest of sighting its different offered Wildlife Species particularly Wild animals, bird species, and more.
Usually, game driving is done using a suitable 4×4 wheel drive pop up Safari jeep granting chances of long-distance sighting of different Wildlife species within the suburbs of the Park.
